Northern and Fanshawe College's Partnership Supports Students and 12 Local Businesses

LONDON, ON - April 14, 2022 - Launched in 2020 by Northern Commerce and Fanshawe College, the Northern Digital Marketing Challenge is a co-funded experiential learning competition where students run live digital marketing campaigns for local businesses. This year, teams of students built, executed, and managed campaigns for 12 companies using a $500 budget of Google, Facebook, and TikTok ads. "After so many companies pivoted online to supplement losses during the pandemic, the help from this group of students has been valued support to the local businesses," said Corey Dubeau, Northern's VP of Strategy.
Students learned directly from the team at Northern Commerce, North America’s leading digital solutions agency. “At Northern, we’re helping to build our community with this dedicated mentorship and learning opportunity. We work collaboratively with the students to help them explore the digital marketing realm, and gain new skills and hands-on experience,” says Lauren Dixon, Digital Advertising Manager, at Northern Commerce and Part-Time Professor, at Fanshawe College.
At the competition's conclusion this week, teams presented their campaigns and results to a panel of judges from Northern Commerce, who selected and awarded the top three based on business impact, technology knowledge, presentation skills, and campaign performance. “This experience was rewarding for the students, our community, and the local businesses, all impacted by the pandemic,” says Liz Gray, Instructor at Fanshawe College.

Northern Commerce and Fanshawe College are committed to their partnership and impacting the community. They’ve partnered on other initiatives that include Northern’s web developers teaching Shopify and Drupal web development courses at Fanshawe College. Northern also offers internships and co-op placements to Fanshawe students, with many transitioning into full-time jobs at Northern Commerce.
