Gongshow Gear is a specialty retailer targeting people that live the hockey lifestyle. Selling clothing, accessories, and more, GONGSHOW is the largest hockey lifestyle apparel & accessories company globally, distributing in over 15 countries. 

Brief

Gongshow teamed up with Northern to grow the sport of hockey worldwide with quality apparel and an eCommerce website to match. Northern developed Gongshow’s loyalty program as a joint effort with Sweet Tooth to achieve extraordinary results!

Challenge

Gongshow’s customers have always been vocally supportive of the brand on social media, but they wanted to learn if a loyalty program would strengthen this relationship! The Gonger Nation Rewards Club gives back to vocal brand advocates, encouraging others to participate.

Strategy

GONGSHOW’s loyalty program, Gonger Nation Rewards Club, instills a deep sense of community within all loyalty program members. Customers receive rewards for spending more, and brand advocates for sharing GONGSHOW with their friends. Bonus rewards are set at slightly higher order totals to incentivize higher average order sizes.

Customers receive increasing bonus points when they spend over $65, $90, and $150. The bonus points grew GONGSHOW’s average order value by 8.9% and increased purchases in the $90-$150 range by an incredible 20%!

Customer engagement and brand advocacy are integral components of Gonger Nation Rewards. Customers get rewards for creating an account, signing up for the newsletter, reviewing products, sharing products on social media, and referring friends. 

All site visitors - even guests - are shown how many points they earn on products and purchases. If a new customer views their cart or checkout without creating an account, they lose the rewards on their order, which increased the number of new accounts created by 77% and improved the conversion rate by 24%!

Results

By rewarding customers for creating an account (and requiring them to create an account to keep their points earned on orders), GONGSHOW increased its customer accounts by a whopping 77%.

Customers earned bonus points when they spent over $90 - a subtle incentive to spend more increased GONGSHOW’s revenue by 20%.

Because customers were given bonus points for spending more than they usually would, GONGSHOW’s average order value for the entire site increased by 8.9%.

Significant results require big changes. Instead of optimizing for fractions of a percent in conversion rate improvement, GONGSHOW invested in loyalty and was able to increase its eCommerce conversion rate by an incredible 24%
