The Client

London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is an acute care teaching hospital with several hospitals under its jurisdiction in London, Canada. As Canada's fourth busiest hospital website, it attracts almost as much traffic as the big three - SickKids, Sunnybrook and University Health Network in Toronto.

The Challenge

The LHSC website was ten years old and ran on an unsupported platform. It couldn't provide timely communication in emergent situations and had fallen behind its other web-based channels (Intranet, Twitter, Facebook, etc.). LHSC sought a solution to bring system stability and security, better editing capabilities, improved mobile experience, and proper protocol for patient privacy with the standard of HTTPS and AODA compliance.

London Health Sciences Centre wanted to improve its culture and reputation, by connecting efficiently and effectively to all target audiences and bringing to the digital space its patients-first attitude and service. From this desire, a multi-year multi-phase project that saw the adoption of Drupal as its digital experience management system of choice was born.

The Strategy

The first major project included the redesign and relaunch of the organization’s intranet. The new digital experience drives web content and multichannel, personalized experiences with users, customers, and visitors, wherever they might be. Applications based on the Drupal framework are secure, require no vendor lock-in, and can quickly adjust to new trends in technology.

LHSC's new digital experience has enhanced ease of communications management, reduced IT disruption expenses, and eliminated redundancy enabling key medical staff to redirect their time to engaging and interacting with patients rather than bearing the technical brunt of technology.
